Interview With Myujii

How did you get your current artistic style?

-I'd say that my current (digital) artistic style is about a mix of a lot of stuff and aesthetics I like. Starting from the use of retro software, where I create my pieces on DPaint2 emulated on my laptop - a software that I've been addicted to since the day a friend introduced me to it.

Shocking palettes, dubious architecture, dithering pixels, gifs, space, planets, technological devices, RPG stuff...

When you trade, you invest something while receiving nothing in return. I've never heard of this concept before and find it intriguing. Could you elaborate?

-The description is a joke comparing trade with exploitation like it was camouflaged, depicting a world full of madness and no love.

In this piece, you can see a device taking matter from a little moon on a night - as it is exploring nature from the shadows - the same way humans do it (of course, because this device is human-made), and it gives nothing in return to the star - human history is full of this, either with other living beings or natural resources.

So I think that not only inside the dystopian universe where my pieces live but also in the real world, the earth is a place where many people have invested a lot and received nothing(or nearly nothing) in return on many occasions...

Do you find it challenging to create?

-I find it more challenging than creating to accept my pieces. Sometimes, my work flows like water, and I can create something I love from scratch. Sometimes, I'm just stuck and don't like anything I'm doing. I suppose it depends on many things, which are different from artist to artist. But for sure, when we're comfortable and have no big issues to deal with, it is way easier to create - these moments are rare, but they exist, haha.
