Interview With Poppel

Why do you like to create using a dark perspective?

-I don't consider my works to be very dark; I should say that darkness is not the dominant theme here. I believe they lean more toward the weird and unsettling rather than pure darkness. My inspiration comes from life and the things I consume, and there's always an undercurrent of unease and unsettling feelings in the moments I cherish.

Why do you like to use pixels to create your work?

-It has never been purely pixel art. I began the Genxel series on Hicetnunc with a focus on merging code-generated visual snippets with hand-drawn pixel illustrations. This approach has carried over into other series I create. To me, pixel art represents "the most abstract non-abstract art," and it complements creations made through coding. Many of my "pixel art" pieces include coded visuals, though I understand that not many people may notice or care about it. That doesn't bother me. Coding should be demystified and considered just a regular creative tool without any added mystique.

Do you trade much regularly?

-Apart from selling my own works, I don't trade very often. I'm not a successful trader; it seems that things tend to go up right after I sell them. Perhaps I should sell more for the sake of world peace.
